Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss, has said she would order a review of the IR35 rules to make sure freelance workers are treated fairly, if chosen to be the next Prime Minister.
In a recent interview Liz advised: “The changes that have been made to IR35 are all about trying to treat the self-employed the same as big business. But the fact is, if you’re self-employed, you don’t get the same benefits such as holiday pay, so the tax system should reflect that more.”
The governments reform to the rules last year have faced criticism for being too difficult to navigate, so this could be a promising start if Liz wins the vote for Prime Minister next month.
