Embracing Diversity Within Construction

The UK construction industry hosts a diverse workforce with a substantial number of roles filled by Non UK workers alongside UK workers. Notably, there is a strong presence of workers from EU countries like Romania and Poland, especially in manual labour and skilled trades. There is also a vast number of workers from non-EU countries such as India, Lithuania, and Bulgaria contributing to the sector.

It's crucial that we engage with our entire contingent workforce in a compliant manner. Partnering with Stonebridge ensures that our clients have peace of mind in knowing that we prioritise clear communication and understanding, especially when it comes to registering and working with our operatives.

Our Customer Services and Registrations team speak multiple languages, including English, Romanian, Polish, Spanish, Arabic, and Urdu. This multilingual capability ensures smoother communication for operatives whose first language isn't English, whether by phone or email.

As a reminder, we require the following documents during our registration process:

UK & Ireland:

  • British passport (current or expired)

  • Irish passport (current or expired)

  • UK birth or adoption certificate, accompanied by an official document that includes the individual's permanent National Insurance number and name, issued by a government agency or a previous employer.

EU:

  • Share code

  • Passport or National ID card

Non-EU:

  • Valid Visa or Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) indicating work permissions

  • Share code

For other circumstances where an operative seeks to work in the UK, alternative forms of Right to Work documents and identification may be acceptable. In cases involving family members of EU nationals, temporary workers, asylum seekers, or students, we will conduct additional due diligence to assess whether we can compliantly engage.
